Summer Reading Celebration
Unearth a Story: Summer Reading Celebration
After a summer filled with books, imagination, learning, and adventure, families from across the Permian Basin are invited to gather at the Midland County Horseshoe for the official Summer Reading Celebration hosted by the Midland County Public Libraries.
The celebration marks the grand finale of the library's 2026 Summer Reading Program, “Unearth a Story,” a community-wide initiative that encouraged children, teens, and adults to discover new worlds through reading while earning prizes, free books, and entries into grand prize drawings throughout the summer.
Since June, participants have spent countless hours exploring stories, attending educational programs, meeting performers, and discovering the joy of reading. Now it's time to celebrate those accomplishments together.
A Summer of Discovery
This year's “Unearth a Story” theme inspired readers to dig deeper into history, science, imagination, and creativity. The program connected with the library's popular dinosaur exhibit, Dinosaurs: Land of Fire & Ice, while offering a wide variety of activities designed to keep young minds active during the summer months.
Families enjoyed appearances from nationally recognized entertainers and educators, interactive presentations, story times, family activities, Bookmobile visits, teen programming, and special events held throughout Midland County.
The Summer Reading Program continues to be one of the community's most valuable educational initiatives, helping students stay engaged during the summer while creating opportunities for families to learn and grow together.
Featuring Grammy Award-Winning Entertainer Mr. Blue Shoes
This year's celebration will feature a special performance by Michael Dyson, better known to audiences as Mr. Blue Shoes.
A Grammy Award-winning children's entertainer, Mr. Blue Shoes is known for his energetic performances that combine music, movement, storytelling, and audience participation. His engaging style creates an interactive experience that keeps children laughing, learning, and dancing from start to finish.
The performance will also incorporate themes connected to the nationwide America250 celebration, offering a fun and memorable way for families to celebrate America's upcoming 250th anniversary through music and entertainment.
Fun for the Entire Family
Whether your family participated in the Summer Reading Challenge or you're simply looking for a fun community event, the Summer Reading Celebration offers a welcoming environment for all ages.
Join fellow readers, celebrate a summer of accomplishments, and enjoy an exciting morning filled with music, entertainment, and community spirit.
Bring the family, invite your friends, and help Midland County Public Libraries close out another successful summer of reading with a celebration worthy of the stories discovered along the way.
