International Rocket Engineering Competition
The International Rocket Engineering Competition (IREC) returns to Midland for a week celebrating innovation, engineering, and the next generation of aerospace leaders.
Hosted by the Experimental Sounding Rocket Association (ESRA), IREC is the world’s largest collegiate rocket engineering competition, bringing together student teams from around the globe to design, build, and launch high-powered rockets reaching target altitudes of 10,000, 30,000, and 45,000 feet.
Since becoming an international competition in 2011, IREC has grown to include more than 150 schools from over 20 countries across six continents.
Opening Ceremonies and Conference Day:
- Opening Ceremony
- Conference Poster Sessions
- Student project displays and rocket hardware exhibits
- Opportunities to meet teams, recruiters, engineers, and aerospace innovators from around the world
- ESRA merchandise and concessions available throughout the day
Conference Poster Sessions will feature student engineering teams presenting their rocket systems, research, hardware, and technical designs, while Podium Sessions will showcase formal presentations on aerospace engineering and rocket development projects.
This event offers a rare opportunity for the Permian Basin community to experience world-class aerospace innovation up close while supporting students pursuing careers in engineering, science, and technology.
Spectator Information:
Admission is free to attend; however, all spectators must complete ESRA’s spectator registration prior to arrival.
